Brighton Fringe 2018

Brighton Fringe is back at the Welly in May and it’s bigger and better than ever. We’re delighted to be partnering with Sweet Venues for the first time for this year’s Brighton Fringe programme. Sweet Venues have been curating amazing year-round offerings at the Dukebox Theatre (Southern Belle) since 2015, as well as numerous pop-up spaces during the Fringe.

You can look forward to at least one show every day in our small but perfectly formed upstairs venue, with some days featuring as many as six different performances.

Acts include Sam Savage, Cult of Comedy, Nick Elleray, Mike & Roy, Dave Chawner, Will Rowland, Christian Talbot, Pete Strong, Richard Todd, Heidi Regan, Sonia Aste, Oil Bettersworth, Francis Foster, David Mover, Fran day, Daphna Baram, Daniel Searle, Robyn Perkins, Juliet Myers, Sameena Zehra, Stella Graham, Rob Dumbrell, Maria Shehata, Yuriko Kotani, Graeme Collard, Jake Howie, Alex Martini, Rob Deb, Fiona Sagar, Francis Foster, David Thorpe, Mel Byron, Talbot & Holt, Sophie Duker, David McIver, Spring Day, and Rachel Sambrooks (who you might remember from Stand By Your Nan last year).

Full details to come but in the meantime, watch this space!

Vegan Wine Update

Our suppliers have come back with the lowdown and we’re please to report that our Callia Selected Argentinian Malbec, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, Champagne Duval-Leroy NV Brut and Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial are all vegan-friendly.

Please note, Bodegas Callia say ‘In the process of making our wines, we do not use substances of animal origin but we do not have a vegan certification’ so we think that makes it vegan but if anyone can shed any further light on that one, please let us know. Apparently the cost of certification is prohibitively expensive for many producers in Argentina and this may be why Bodegas Callia are uncertified.

Of our white wines, Cullinan View Chenin Blanc and Antonio Rubini Pinot Grigio delle Veneze are vegetarian but not vegan. This is also the case for Corte Vigna Pinot Grigio Rosé delle Venezie and Viña Pomal Centenario Rioja Crianza.

Small amounts of animal products such as isinglass are used to make Waipara Hills Sauvignon Blanc, Rugged Ridge Zinfandel Rosé and Cullinan View Shiraz, so these wines are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

All our wines are naturally gluten-free.
